Keeping It Clean

This week I have to focus on spring cleaning some of my rooms. The temperature outside is going to be 110 degrees and above for the next two weeks so I need to find things to do indoors. Since I'm still not working, I don't go anywhere unless I need to. Today, Katie goes back to work and Kennedy is at daycare. She will be going to daycare one day a week on Mondays. Katie will work in the evenings Tuesday thru Thursday and Ryan will watch Kennedy on those nights. She has Friday thru Sunday off. The house is quiet so this is why I am taking this opportunity to get caught up on some cleaning. Tomorrow, I will have to go and see my doctor for blood test for my cholesterol and thyroid. This will mean a 14 hour fast. I have been putting off seeing him because I have no medical insurance, but he won't refill my prescriptions until I see him. Oh well, I knew that was coming. Also tomorrow, my niece Sarah will be graduating from beauty school. We are so proud of her.

Fireworks, BBQ and Relaxing

When our children were little, and it was the Fourth or July, we packed them up in our car and took them off to see fireworks. We would usually end up at either the downtown capital's lawn, a park or on a college lawn with our friends. We would look for that patch of grass amongst the thousands of people, spread out our blanket, put up the lawn chairs, and put down the cooler containing lots of drinks and some snacks. We pulled out the spray bottles, because living in Phoenix and being gawd awful hot, we needed to be shot with a mist of water constantly. I would usually put those bottle in the fridge before hand so the water was nice and cold. As the sun finally went down, the heat still remained, we all got ready for the show. The kids had on there glow-in-the-dark necklaces as we waited in anticipation. The fireworks show usually lasted a good 20 minutes and was amazing. Then, we packed up everything and headed home. The huge crowds usually caused long, long lines of cars all trying to leave the same place at the same time.

The kids are adults now and do their own thing on the Fourth. Gary and I choose to stay home in the air conditioning, roll out the BBQ and throw some burgers and hot dogs on the fire. A couple of our local channels will show the city's fireworks on their station. This is how I usually see fireworks these days. I would like to go up north to one of AZ smaller and cooler cities or towns to watch fireworks, but with the fire hazards and budget problems each city is facing, most are choosing to not set them off. Whatever you do this holiday season, have fun and be safe.

Lucy the Protector

Lucy has appointed herself Kennedy's protector. She watches her bedroom door when she is in the room sleeping and comes running whenever Kennedy cries. She always has to check her out whenever she is sitting on Grandma's lap and even tries to sneak in a lick on the toes or arms whenever possible. Lucy loves her tiny little person.
